10 days Golisat Hiking On Mountain Elgon
Mount Elgon National park is a National Park that straddles the western border of Kenya and Uganda. Located in the Trans – Nzoia District of Rift Valley Province, it covers an area of 169 square kilometers. It is unique split down the middle by the Kenyan – Ugandan side of the mountain has made it into a wildlife reserve like the Kenyan side of the mountain.
You will have 2 nights at Grand Imperial Hotel, Royal Capital Palace Hotel ( Medium class accommodation) or Fairway Hotel ( low Budget accommodation), 1 night at Mbaale resort Hotel,1 night at Sasa river camp,2 night at Mudde cave camp,1 night at Hunters cave camp, 1 night at Tatum cave camp and 1 night at Lucam Lodge.
10 days itinerary for hiking on Mountain Elgon
Day 1: Arrival day
Just as you arrive at the Airport, you will meet our safari guide or driver who will welcome you with a smile and then transfer you safely to Kampala for overnight either at Serena Hotel, common Wealth Country Resort Munyonyo (Up-Market/luxurious accommodation), Grand Imperial Hotel, Royal Capital Palace Hotel ( Medium class accommodation) or Fairway Hotel ( low Budget accommodation).
Day 2: Transfer to Mbaale
You will wake up early in the morning, have you breakfast and then set off for Mbaale via Jinja source or river Nile. It is 250km from Kampala and Mountain Elgon is 4,321 meters high extinct volcano which in pre-historic time stood taller than Kilimanjaro does to day. It first erupted 24 million years ago. Wild life species such as antelopes, elephants, buffalos, monkeys, birds over 300 species and the spectacular scenery which is the main attraction for hikers.
Overnight at either Mbaale Resort hotel or Wash and Wills hotel, Mount Elgon Hotel.
Day 3: Sasa camp (2,300m)
After breakfast, drive to Budadiri Park headquarters to begin 4-5 hours hike walking through slopes of montane and bamboo vegetation on Mount Elgon. After that, you will definitely reach Sasa camp where you will have your dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Head to Mudde cave camp (3,900m)
After breakfast, you will continue to hike through the extra ordinary moorland vegetation. At this point the climate and vegetation often changes with altitude until you arrive at the Mudde cave where you will have your dinner and over night from.
Day 5: Transfer to Wagagai peak (4,321m)
You are expected to have your early break fast early in the morning and then transfer to Wagagai for a hike, this is the highest peak. Do not dare miss it because chances are that you will have spectacular views of rare high altitude vegetation and the Jackson summit. By the time you finish, you will be worn-out so you will just have your dinner and overnight at Mudde Cave camp site.
Day 6: Hunters cave camp
Wake up in the morning and have a cup of coffee and then ascend towards the caldera and the hot springs, take photos as you have clear view of the Elgonensis. If you want every body back in your home country to know that you have really been there, taking pictures should be a must because if you try to explain to them, they might not take your word, so do not leave your camera behind. You will have dinner and overnight at hunters cave camp.
Day 7: Transfer to Tatum cave
You are expected to wake up early in the morning for your breakfast and then embark on the hike following the famous Tatum cave which has ancient cave paintings. When you reach there, it might be hard for you to identify it, it seems like there is no cave, it is marvelous and unforgettable. Perhaps you will not go back, you will just go on to have your dinner and over night at Tatum cave camp site.
Day 8: Tatum – Sipi caves
Immediately after breakfast, you will trek from Tatum cave camp to the park headquarters and later transfer to Sipi falls and take a walk to the caves on the opposite side of the falls. Sipi falls is a beautiful and lovely fall for one to see. When you see this Fall, it is indeed a life changing experience for one; it is some thing you can not attempt to miss Overnight at the Lucam lodge which over looks the falls.
Day 9: Transfer back to Kampala
After breakfast, visit Mbaale town and then leave for Kampala having a stop over at the spectacular Bujagali falls and the source of the river Nile and Sezibwa falls. Overnight at Serena Hotel (Up-Market/luxurious accommodation), Grand Imperial Hotel (Medium class accommodation), and Fare way Hotel (low Budget accommodation).
Day 10: Departure day safari ends.
You will wake up and have your breakfast comfortably and according to the flight schedule, you will have some shopping for a few minutes and then be transferred to Entebbe Airport for your flight back home.
