5 Days Chimpanzee Safaris - Murchison Falls & Kibale National Parks Uganda Safari Tour

For a wildlife safari in Uganda, Murchison Falls and Kibale national parks will enable you to have a glimpse of most animal species in Uganda. You will be able to see most of the savanna animals in Murchison Falls national park including Roschild’s giraffes, hippos, buffaloes, hartebeests, oribis, Uganda kobs, lions, buffaloes, elephants, chimpanzees and many bird species including the prehistoric shoebill. For your primates tracking safari, both parks offer excellent chimp treks. Major tourist activities in this 5-day wildlife tour includes: game viewing, launch cruise, chimpanzee tracking and birding.

Tour itinerary

Day 1: Kampala - Murchison Falls NP

After breakfast, transfer by road northwards via Masindi town for your lunch. Proceed via Budongo Forest and arrive at the top of the falls in the evening.
The falls are awesome when viewed up-close – described as the most spectacular thing to happen to the Nile along its 6,700 km length. The gorge through which the Nile passes is  just 6m wide, making this possibly the most powerful natural surge of water found anywhere in the world. The 150-meter drop of the falls creates a thunderous roar and a beautiful rainbow in a plume of spray - the best thing in the ‘Pearl of Africa’ – Uganda. Day 2: Wildlife Viewing - Murchison Falls NP

After breakfast, undertake a game drive following the Buligi Circuit which includes the Buligi, Victoria Nile, Queen and Albertine Nile tracks. The whole circuit covers at least 120 km and takes 4 to 5 hours. This area is suitable for spotting some of the park’s 500 giraffes. It is also possible to see a few groups of lions, leopards and hyenas; herds of buffaloes and elephants. In the afternoon enjoy a launch trip. The 3 hour launch trip from Paraa up to the base of the falls starts at 2pm. Dinner and overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge / Red Chilli River Camp /Sambiya River lodge (FB)

Day 3: Murchison Falls to Kibale Forest NP

Drive following the Albertine Escarpment of the western Rift valley on the Masindi - Hoima - Fort portal road. This will be a long drive south via Hoima to Fort Portal, passing though verdant countryside and traditional homesteads and farms. Fort Portal rests in the shadow of the Fabled "Mountains of the Moon," The Journey is long! At least five hours of driving. Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking

After a morning breakfast our tour guide will transfer you to Kanyanchu – the park headquarters. From here the park rangers will take for guided walks along well-marked tracks (3 – 5km return) in search of the chimps. There are daily walks between 8am to 11am and from 3pm to 6pm. The group size is limited to 6 people but any number of groups can set off, as long as they go off in different directions. 5 groups of chimps have been habituated to humans.

For birders, they can go birding in the afternoon in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary established to protect the Magombe Swamp, is a haven for birds, with 137 species plus butterflies and a number of primates. Day 5: Queen Elizabeth Tour

Enjoy your breakfast and transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park early enough for your lunch in preparation for an afternoon launch cruise on Kazinga Channel. This is the highlight of a Uganda safari. Don't miss it! Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge or Jacana Safari Lodge (FB)

Day 6: Game viewing in Queen Elizabeth national park
undertake an early morning game drive following Kasenyi track for a high variety and concentration of wildlife. Return to the lodge for your breakfast and transfer to Kyambura Gorge for more chimp tracking. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge or Jacana Safari Lodge (FB)

Day 7: Return to Kampala
After breakfast, drive back to Kampala with lunch en route in Mbarara. In the evening enjoy Kampala city tour. Dinner and overnight at Speke Hotel or similar other.
